Airblue Launches Airblue Airflix: How to Use the New Inflight Entertainment System
Airblue switched on Airflix, its new inflight entertainment system, on August 14 — Pakistan’s Independence Day. Passengers can now stream movies, TV shows, music, games, and a live moving map straight to their own phone or tablet during the flight, no seatback screen involved.
Here’s what Airflix actually offers, how the connection works, and what we don’t know yet.
What Airblue Airflix offers
According to Airblue, Airflix gives passengers access to:
- Movies and TV shows
- Music
- Games
- A live moving map showing the aircraft’s route and position
It’s a bring-your-own-device system: content streams from a server on the aircraft to your personal phone, tablet, or laptop over the plane’s local wireless network. There’s no seatback screen and no internet connection involved — you’re streaming from the aircraft itself, not from the web.
How the connection works
Airblue hasn’t published exact connection steps yet, but systems like this generally work the same way:
- Switch your phone to airplane mode, then turn Wi-Fi back on.
- Look for a network named something like “Airblue” or “Airflix” in your Wi-Fi list and connect to it.
- Open your phone’s browser — a content portal should load automatically, or you may need to type in an address shown on your seat card or announced by cabin crew.
- Browse and stream directly from the portal.
Cabin crew will have the exact network name and any login steps for your specific flight, so check your seat card or ask onboard if the network doesn’t show up right away.
What’s not confirmed yet
A few details Airblue hasn’t spelled out publicly:
- Whether Airflix is live across the entire fleet or being rolled out gradually
- Whether there’s any cost involved, or if it’s free for all passengers
- Whether it’s available on domestic routes, international routes, or both
